Book
The last book I read was Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud, this book was a real help and inspiration to me it really helped delve into a world of comics the true techniques of sequencing panels, what happens between the panels. How a simple circle, two dots and a line is impossible to not see as a face. It also explains the psychological approach to reading comic books, and how peoples minds work when reading graphic novels and comic books. I entered this book with a lesser understanding of comic books and I was very happy to have treated myself to such a good book. Now having read this I have a deeper understanding of how to create an effective comic book.
Film
The last film I had watched was the comic book movie adaption "Dredd" this movie has become one of my personal favorite films and how true to the comic book it stays to. The movie has the use of new slow motion capture software which makes literally anything beautiful to look at the sparkle of blood exiting a wound from a gun shot gives a beautiful effect to the film, giving this effect numerous times during the film. This film being on a low budget and being absolutely amazing, it was a great inspiration to me 1) In the art of film making and how something on a lower budget then Hollywood can create something so beautiful. 2) Inspiration to create my own story, Judge Dredd has been a major influence to me as a comic artist one of the first comic books I ever read and giving me the inspiration to make thinks, to draw characters, to set scenes to make comic books. I love this movie and is probably one of my top favorite films.
