The Talk at the Care Home

Today we went to visit the care home today to visit the residents.
I arrived a few minutes late unfortunately due to getting lost walking to the home.
When I arrived I was warming greeted and introduced to Mary one of the residents of the home.

I sat down with Mary and she was friendly, we spoke a bit about music, differences in life before finally sitting down to talk about Mary's life.
Mary was a young girl during the beginning of the war (around 4 years old). She lived over in a small village in Cornwall just off Penhale. Her small village was known for its tin mines which her father worked in over the passing years to supply for the war effect, since tin was in high demand.
She told me of her life which fell kinda unfortunate when she was diagnosed with "" that caused her to sorta lose strength to use her legs. Although that part of the story was very sad having to spend her childhood in a hospital.
She spoke of her father being a manager in the tin mines and looking after Mary as a child for a present he made her a tin toy pram and a tin toy house for her to play with when she got some strength back in her legs. She also spoke of her fathers duty as a home guard. With her home being in a village it was less likely to be attacked by German aircraft. She spoke a lot about Christmas and what they made do with what they had from rationing they managed to get themselves a small chicken, potatoes and some vegetables to feast.

I gathered a lot from my talk with Mary although she was young during the war time, a lot of interesting stories and experiences through the eyes of a small child during the era of the time, we had a lot to talk about and both had a good day talking.
