Dredd (2012)

I went to the cinema tonight for the release of the new film "DREDD" a comic book live action film based on the comic book series, JUDGE DREDD. Having watched the 1995 film of the same name which came across as nothing special what so ever having a lot wrong with it with the biggest problem of Dredd removing his helmet 5 minutes into the film itself, which came to the conclusion it wasn't Judge Dredd it was "Sylvester Stallon meets Dredd's mates."
I entered the cinema with no high expectations for the film itself and leaving...Satisfied. The film was brilliant although short it was extremely entertaining to watch.
The film stuck to the comic books very well and more then anything kicked the original out the window. For example Dredd's uniform.

Here you see the the traditional costume of Judge Dredd the strong arm of the law. He walks proud with his insignia's badge reading a name feared by the criminals of every Mega City..."DREDD."

Here is a comparison of the difference in costume of Judge Dredd. To the left we have the 1995 Hollywood film play by Sylvester Stallone. To the right the new 2012 south African/ British movie played by Karl Urban.  Now as you can see both costumes are bout different in comparison but Im going to say even thought DREDD's costume was exactly true to the comic books I like the whole future riot cop and the helmet acts much better and has a cycle helmet sort of form. Where the 1995's looks like a small plastic kids toy, seriously look are those tights ? and a cod piece ? way to work with your money hollywood. Although people may argue that the 1995's looks more authentic to the comic you can see that the 2012's focused more on the original Judge Dredd's uniform as seen below.

Karl Urban's acting is superb at the start you seen that it is Karl Urban but the rest of the film you see only DREDD. Syl, pulls the helmet off and turns it into Stallone's film casting Dredd to the bench as he butchers the phrase "THE LAW"

In my opinion the 2012 one although on a lower budget to the Hollywood film was superior sticking true the comic and showing us how awesome Judge Dredd really is there are rumors of two more films so fingers crossed we might see some Dark Judges creeping in.

If you haven't watched Dredd and you love comic books or even read 2000AD and Judge Dredd yourself go and watch it...NOW or get a life long sentence creep.
